Please read the following policies for all courses offered by Pool Professionals
American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Blended Course
This Lifeguard Course is a Blended Learning, meaning a portion of the course will be online and self paced. The sign-up will close 10 days prior to the course and that is when you will receive a link to the online training. This portion takes 8 hours. You will be REQUIRED to complete the online trainings before attending the in person portion. We will have access to see if you have completed this section, but we also suggest taking a picture of the online completion and bringing to the in person sessions.
- Candidates must successfully complete all online modules. Online training requires a computer. (iPad and tablets may not be compatible)
- Candidates must successfully complete swimming prerequisites. (see below)
- Candidates must attend every session listed for the course you selected. Attendance in the course does not guarantee certification.
- Candidates must pass written and practical exams

Being a lifeguard is an incredibly rewarding job, but you do have to work hard for it. Our instructors provide comprehensive hands-on lifeguard training. After completing this course, you will possess the knowledge to provide protection for all pool patrons.
Certifications included: Lifeguarding, CPR, AED, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogens. Certification is valid for 2 years. If you have been lifeguard certified in the past, and have let the certification lapse, then you must retake the full Lifeguard Course.

Course Prerequisites:
Must be 15 years old on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
Each participant must pass a prerequisite swimming test to be eligible to take the Lifeguarding course.
Part 1 – the “300”: The swim is 300 yards non stop -100 yards freestyle with a supportive kick and rotary breathing – FACE IN WATER, 100 yards breaststroke with a pull-breath-kick-glide motion, 100 yards freestyle or breaststroke (swim goggles allowed for this portion).
Part 2 – the “Brick”: Candidates must swim 20 yards to retrieve a 10 pound object from a minimum of 7 feet of water and return to starting position within 100 seconds (no swim goggles allowed for this portion).
Part 3 – “Treading Water”: Candidates must tread water for 2 minutes with their hands placed underneath their armpits keeping their heads clear of the water in a manner that allows for comfortable breathing.
Please be certain that you want to take the class before you register. If you cannot meet the prerequisites for the course, you will not be entitled to a refund of your class fees.
Testing:
Students must score a minimum of 80% on both written tests (Lifeguard Training, CPR Pro with AED and First Aid), PLUS, perform all rescue skills up to the course standard to receive a passing grade in the Lifeguard Course. Participants must be on-time, and attend ALL class sessions.
Course Manual:
Each participant will be given a numbered manual to borrow for the duration of the course. Participants can download a lifeguard manual online, at no cost if an electronic version is preferred.
A $35 replacement fee may be charged to participants who do not turn the borrowed manual back in on the last day of the course or who return a damaged manual.
Attendance:
We do NOT schedule make up classes. In all of our courses, all scheduled class sessions must be attended. If a class is missed, you must enroll in another course, pay the full course fee again, and take the entire course over again. There will be no refunds for participants who miss class or are absent for more than one hour cumulative over the entire course length. It is your responsibility to check your own schedule to be sure you are able to attend all class dates and times.
Non-Refundable Fee Acknowledgement:
You are paying for a seat in this course, and it is guaranteed. This course has a limit to how many participants can be certified at one time, and therefore you are guaranteed a seat in this course upon payment and excluding anyone else from registering in your spot. This guaranteed seat is non-refundable. You can cancel your registration and take the course at another time, but you cannot collect a refund for your seat in any course at any time.
Pool Professionals reserves the right to dismiss any participant. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. This course is intended to educate and instill professional rescue skills. As such, each participant is expected to act in a professional manner and not detract from the learning of any other participant. As such, if you are found guilty of misleading the instructor about the status of your past and present certifications or dishonest about any of the aforementioned, you will not receive a certification and will not be allowed to take another course at Pool Professionals.
Physical Requirements of the Course:
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course requires strenuous physical activity. Please be certain that you are capable of this type of activity before registering. If the candidate has asthma or any other condition that may be induced with physical activity be sure to let Pool Professionals know by calling our office at 919-787-7878. If you are leaving a voicemail, please include name, any information on symptoms and medications and how to administer if needed.
Certification Cards:
You can now access your lifeguard certification at anytime by visiting https://www.redcross.org/take-a-class/digital-certificate.
What to Bring:
Pencils, paper, goggles, towel, bathing suit, and warm attire to change into.
Pool Professionals reserves the right to cancel any course, due to low enrollment and will in the case of low-enrollment issue refunds to participants or attempt to reschedule participants in a future course if possible.
